APPROACH

Here you’ll find a clear overview of how I work in therapy, what guides my sessions, and what you can expect when we work together.”

My therapeutic practice

My therapeutic approach is integrative and individualized. I am skilled in Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Attachment-Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have a strong social justice lens, and my practices are grounded in anti-oppressive values. I also approach sessions with a trauma-informed lens and with the belief that my clients are the experts of their own lives. I strive to honour each person’s unique identities and lived experiences by recognizing how factors such as culture, race, gender, and systemic influences intersect to shape their stories. I support clients in building on existing strengths, fostering self-compassion and empowering clients to create meaningful and sustainable change.

Intersectional

Intersectionality is a framework for understanding how people’s overlapping identities, including race, culture, class, gender, sexuality, and more, can shape their experiences. I strive to create a compassionate space where clients can explore how different forms of oppression and privilege intersect, impacting their wellness.

As a therapist, I recognize how important it is to acknowledge my own privileges and biases. I am committed to ongoing professional development on Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppressive values. I also engage in regular clinical supervision to ensure I am adhering to best practices as I support folks from diverse backgrounds.

2

Trauma informed

My trauma-informed practice acknowledges the presence of trauma and its impact on a person’s life. I  help clients to explore and process traumatic experiences while honoring their life experiences, their stories, and their personal narratives. This includes connecting people to resources, developing skills and knowledge to cope with strong emotions, and cultivating emotional regulation techniques. My hope is that my clients will have the power to create healthier and more adaptive meaning of their experiences.

3

Strength based

Strength-based therapy is grounded in the idea that each individual has unique qualities and abilities that can be tapped into to foster growth and positive change. Rather than focusing exclusively on problems and what needs to be fixed, this approach focuses on embracing what is working and what is possible for the individual.

In therapy sessions, I work with clients to uncover their inner strengths and motivations, identify their values, set achievable goals, and develop strategies for change. Self-reflection is one of the key components of this process, as we delve into the person's unique inner resources and build upon their existing skills to help them meet their objectives.

4

Evidence informed

Evidence-informed practice combines current research with a clinician's expertise and knowledge, while taking into account each client's unique needs. It ensures a tailored, personalized approach to treatment, allowing for flexibility if treatments or methods don't work.

In practice, this looks like engaging clients as active partners in the therapeutic process by fostering open communication and collaboration. I am committed to remain well-informed on the latest research  and regularly check-in with my clients  to gauge our clinical progress.
